Having sort of moved from XP Pro to Windows 10, I am in the process of installing older stuff that I am hoping to keep using. Trainz full version free download.
At this stage, I have established from Canon that there is no plan for new drivers for the CanoScan 8400F driver. Instead, Canon suggests to use the Windows 7 driver (with qualifications at Canon about issues they do not know of as yet; to be sure to be sure).
When I run the setup program, there is no reaction whatsoever, for instance about a preferred installation directory, instead, the next thing I get is a message saying it may not work. Then offering options of deeming it installed, or doing something that then clearly involves XP Pro SP3 material. For now, I did not take notes on the details in this regard. However, the messages displayed suggest that some kind of install was made.
The upshot, you may ask: having run this install a number of times, I find absolutely no trace of it. No entry in programs, nothing on the desktop. When I then connected the scanner anyway, it briefly displayed an icon in the task bar, which immediately disappeared, but nothing further happens. Nor is there an entry in installed programs.
So I thought I simply run the exe that I had running on the XP Pro machine; doing this from the full installation folder holding all of the CanoScan installed material. This puts up the expected dialogue, the ToolBox, I can even issue a scan command to have the further form displayed. However, trying to scan then says it cannot open the Twain Source.
Is there someone out there who can shed some light on this.
Surely I am not the only one who wants to avoid throwing out perfectly well working hardware - not more than I had to already anyway.
Additionally I find it disconcerting to see how much happens under the covers within Windows 10. That would be fine if it worked unconditionally towards some visible, conclusive goal.
If anyone cares to respond on this then that would be great; and your time would be greatly appreciated by me.
